Rob Bell - Stats to Think About

March 31st, 2007 by Admin

I (Lon) went to the annual conference for my profession today. They had this section where they handed out awards. Usually, someone who had a relationship with the honoree would get up and say a lot of great things about the person getting the award. The person getting the award would go up to accept and say a few words of thanks. Tears often seemed part of the equation. One person was presented with the “Lifetime Achievement Award”. This woman was amazing. The acolades went on and on. When she got up there she seemed so humble. I guess that’s how you get those kind of awards. At the end of the introduction, the friend presenting the award said, “Congratulations on a life well lived.”

Now, if I had been the one getting the award; no matter how much good I had done, I think I still would have thought of the times I could have done better. I would have thought that there was someone else more deserving. Then it occurred to me: God sees me as perfect through Jesus. He wants nothing more than to open his arms wide and say, “Congratulations on a life well lived!” He wants to give me the lifetime achievement award, right now. That turns the whole thing upside down.

Waiting on the World to Change

This is another great YouTube video that uses John Mayer’s song, “Waiting on the World to Change” to emphasize the responsibility of Jesus followers to live out our faith instead of just talk about it.
